That's Laker great Tyronn Lue
He'd be perfect for the meme team.
JR Smith is looking for a trade and Nick Young is looking for a job while LeBron is looking for shooters. It's too perfect!

Despite Johnson's prior proclamations of needing to allow time for Walton to develop a young roster surrounding four-time MVP LeBron James, evidence is mounting that Walton's job security ultimately depends upon his ability to significantly improve upon a 3-5 to start the season.
magic aint playing huh

"Here's a poorly constructed roster that doesn't make sense and is filled with crazy characters. Don't lose."
[–][SAS] Tiago Splitterthecrunchcrew 417 points 1 day ago
Might as well have just fired him before the season and brought in the players/coach he ultimately wants. Magic has that Lakers capital to do it if that's what he wants.
[–]Pelicanserldn123 258 points 1 day ago
They knew this season was gonna be a wash, so maybe they wanted keep as many fall guys as possible. Keeping Walton means the heat is off them for a while? Now they get a scapegoat and a chance to bring in one of their guys anyway.
[–]Celticsatomictyler 410 points 1 day ago
Blows my mind they were willing to just blow a year of LeBron on a roster like the one they've got. Dude isn't getting any younger, and those FA signings were horrible.
[–]Bullsaiders 130 points 1 day ago
I'm not sure what else they were supposed to do? Sign LeBron and they went after some, players but ultimately they signed year deals with vets to wait for next year when no one else was signing.
[–]Celticsatomictyler 276 points 1 day ago
For starters they could have tried to keep Lopez. They're seriously lacking at the 5 and he could have been had for cheap.

Don't forget Julius randle
[–][SAS] Danny Greendiffeqmaster 129 points 1 day ago
That's the one that really gets me. Lakers fans keep saying "we needed the cap space next year" every time I bring it up but it's not like Julius Randle is an untradeable contract. If you need to dump him later it wouldn't be difficult and you'd probably get an asset back.
Just make some kind of effort to retain your good basketball players if you're trying to win. Randle has value and they let that walk away for nothing.

It's been 8 fucking games. Magic is looking really short-sighted and impatient right now.
[–]WarriorsHaejang-guk 378 points 1 day ago
Magic should've gotten him a better roster. McGee's been their only consistently good addition.
[–][OKC] Russell WestbrookFeedtheKiwi 2488 points 1 day ago
Really Magic should be apologizing for the players he gave him.
[–]Cavalierswiifan55 1012 points 1 day ago
Seriously. One would think he had a multi-year plan in place, and this year was always meant to be a transition year while focusing on going "all in" in a different FA class. If this report is true and Magic expected to somehow be competitive with this random ass roster around Lebron, then that raises some flags for the future as well.

If there is one thing I have learned in a work environment is.... new management wants THEIR people in key positions. You have to do twice as good as their guys to get any love.
Luke is not a Magic hire.
[–]LakersDunderMeeks 80 points 1 day ago
I don't trust Magic when it comes to coaching hires.
This is a guy that still think Byron Scott is a "great coach."
I don't think Luke is perfect, and his lineups definitely deserve to be criticized, but it has only been a few games, and there was a suspension, and Lonzo came in off an injury. Magic needs to calm down. Him and Pelinka built this mismatched roster, after all.

I'm going to come in here with a white-hot take: while his personal brand is undeniably very valuable to the FO, I think Magic is in over his head and I don't think he has what it takes to be a high-level basketball executive
[–]untouchable765 124 points 1 day ago
Remember the media trying to hype this team up in the preseason lol. Even this sub made posts putting the Lakers finishing as high as 3rd in the Western Conference...

They’ve been close nearly every game and have yet to gel with their crazy roster. It’s 8 games in..we got time.
[–][POR] Damian LillardFamilyguy35 349 points 1 day ago
They play us at the Rose garden then raptors at home on a back to back. They might be 3-7 on Monday. Yikes but they've had a tough schedule
[–]NBAzeek215 117 points 1 day ago
Definitely one of the tougher schedules to start the season.
[–]Lakersbmfalbo 114 points 1 day ago
This is our opening 11 games. Pretty brutal, even by West standards, which is why I'd be surprised if Magic and Pelinka fired Luke this early. This much roster turnover with a hard opening schedule was always an uphill battle.
[–][OKC] Russell WestbrookNobodyRules 450 points 1 day ago*
What the fuck were they expecting? Seriously this team has a lot of new players and the roster is not that well constructed especially when you look at Rondo and KCP's contract, the lack of shooting and a back up center.
It's going to take some time... and probably some moves, Luke can't do that much better with this roster.
[–]Lakersswagdaddy912 472 points 1 day ago
Lol the Lakers could have a way better team. Overpaid rondo. Could of signed nerlens and kept randle. This start is just as much as magics fault
